HOW TO PLAY: PUZZLE ADVENTURE
BRING THE PUZZLES ALONG TO YOUR FAVORITE SIGHTS IN JAPAN!
BY SCRAP Global Team
As thrilling as it is to be solving puzzles inside a locked room with a countdown looming in the back of your mind, sometimes it’s nicer to take it slow and have time to appreciate the puzzle craft.
Amongst the various games we released this year, two of them break away from the classic time-restricted format, and even break out of the walls of the room itself! In this blog post, we’d like to introduce you to our “Puzzle Adventure” games.
What are SCRAP’s Puzzle Adventure Games?
Our Puzzle Adventure games are physical game kits with puzzles designed to lead you around the streets of a certain city, introduce the sights, and recommend unique shops and delicacies along the way. Guiding you through the adventure will be one of the city’s locals (an original character accessed through an online webchat), who’ll share insights into the city’s history, and throw plenty of fun facts (and puzzles) at you! They’re fully equipped with optional hints as well, so there’s no need to fear about getting stuck halfway through!
The flow of the game is broken down into two main sections. The first being puzzles that require exploration and test your observation skills, since they are intricately designed to utilize what you see in your surroundings.
The second are puzzles that can be solved while sitting at a park, cafe, or restaurant, so you’ll be able to re-energize and catch a well-needed break. The in-game guide can also give you great recommendations for places to eat!
All you need to play is the game kit, a device with Internet access, and your adventurous spirit!
Discover the Deep Side!
What’s especially unique about these games is that it acts as a “local’s guide to the city”, meaning your experience doesn’t end with the iconic sights often seen on travel websites and pamphlets. Our goal is to also provide the opportunity for people to escape the crowds, wander down the quieter roads and explore the deeper sides of the city. There’s plenty of history to be learned, and discoveries to be made!

Key Features
One of the main appealing factors of this game is the fact that you can play without the pressure of a time limit, giving you plenty of freedom to appreciate the journey itself. While the intensity of a time limit is surely an exhilarating experience for many, some might prefer to take it a little slower and enjoy the fresh air, making these games the perfect alternate option. There’s no group size limit as well, so you’re free to venture out solo or grab a group of friends and embark on your own city tour!
Many players discover interesting stores and cafes during the game and take detours to eat and shop as they please. Some even pause midway and come back another day to finish the rest. With the flexible format and no penalty for getting distracted, our “Puzzle Adventure” games truly embody the word “Adventure”!

Yokohama and Asakusa
The two English Puzzle Adventure games we released this year feature the charming cities of Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture, and Asakusa in Tokyo Prefecture. Both have great historical significance and showcase the unique culture of Japan!
Asakusa is only a 20 minute train ride from Tokyo Station, making it a perfect stop to add to your Tokyo travel itinerary. And while Yokohama may be in the next prefecture over, the main station is only a 40 minute train ride from Tokyo Station.

Asakusa Puzzle Adventure Guide Book (Japanese version)
You’d be surprised at the vastness of the fascinating lifestyles within Japan’s borders (even the locals have plenty to learn from each other), so we hope to continue expanding this series in the future and share the rich culture of Japan to the world.
Each city in Japan has its own unique culture, making each Puzzle Adventure game a one-of-a-kind experience!
